Use the FREE Second Grade Math Worksheets Below to Boost Your Child's 2nd Grade Math Conceptual Growth!
The FREE Second Grade Math Worksheets we provide below are not for skills development per se; but more for 2nd grade math conceptual growth.Your child has worked on a variety of math topics by the end of the second grade, but the hardest and most significant one is regrouping, adding and subtracting with regrouping.
By conceptual growth, we mean that my second grade math worksheets will help your child develop a higher level of understanding than just being able to perform the arithmetic operation... your child will understand when to apply those arithmetic operations! Adults often think back to “word problems” as the hardest part of math that they remember from school. Why is that? Because applying the skills in a variety of situations requires more thought and a higher level of understanding than straight skill development. In the following pages of worksheets, you'll find 2nd gade math word problems suited for a 2nd grade math student. These worksheets help your child:
- practice how to apply the skills of addition and subtraction
- improve their 2nd grade math skills practice along the way
- build facility with the uses of adding and subtraction and familiarity with the associated vocabulary, and should help your child in many practical ways, as well as in school.
These 2nd grade math word problems are grouped in levels of difficulty. For most children, one group or page is a good amount for work at one sitting. I hope your child finds this work valuable and enjoyable! Download these worksheets now and let's get your child's skills growing deeper!
If you don't already have it, you will have to download the Adobe Acrobat reader to view and print the worksheets.

If your child is still shaky on the basic math facts to twenty (such as 5 + 7 or 15 – 8), he or she can use the FREE first grade math activites practice worksheets we have on this site For more incremental and in-depth practice, I only recommend the reasonably priced and beautifully designed Kumon Skills Books. If your child has the math facts mastered, but needs more work on regrouping:
(such as 59 + 478 or 306 – 48) I would suggest Kumon's 3rd Grade Addition and Subtraction because it covers both skills very thoroughly. OR, if your child is more of a computer-based kind of learner, he'll like the Leapster Math Missions game that builds skills through computer-based practice (instead of pencil-and-paper). Act today to boost your child's fundamental math skills!
